Who doesn’t love an independent bookstore? My local favorite is Elliott Bay Books in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. They’ve got it all: a great selection of books, a beautiful hardwood floor, delicious coffee, and super-smart staff recommendations. And it doesn’t hurt that Molly Moon’s is right around the corner, for some gourmet ice cream on the way home. More than a place to shop, your local independent bookstore is where readers and authors connect, and where local sales create local jobs.
This Saturday, why not show your local bookstore some love by showing up for Independent Bookstore Day and buying a book or two? You can check for independent bookstores near you at Indiebound.org.
As a proud city of literature, Seattle has at least 23 participating booksellers. That makes me so happy! There’s even a passport you can get stamped if you want to visit them all. As for me, I’m in Vancouver BC this week, so I’ll be looking up some new places to shop.
Happy hunting, friends!
